Hello swingsters!
As some of you may recall, a while back (could it even be a couple of years now?? Where does the time go…) I did a few “theme” DJ sets at Route 66, featuring either a particular artist or else songs that were thematically linked. Well, the time has come for it to make its triumphant return! I’m hoping this will be a great way to not only vary the music a bit more, but also to give greater exposure to some artists (or to other, maybe lesser known/lesser played songs by some of the more famous artists).
To kick off the series next week (Thursday, March 24th), I thought, what better way to start than with Nat King Cole? As I’m sure all of you know, his birthday was only just celebrated yesterday: March 17th! He is, of course, the inspiration behind the worldwide celebrations of “St. Nat’s Day” (though of course the Irish, for some reason, choose to celebrate some obscure Catholic saint on the same day instead; what’s up with that?). So expect to hear plenty of your favourite Nat King Cole tunes, from “Straighten Up and Fly Right” to “Orange Coloured Sky”, and maybe a couple you didn’t know as well.
See you when we swing you!
All the best,
Jamie and Clare
Hi everyone,
Big changes are afoot for Route 66 at Q Bar and for our Lindy Hop classes in Fairview!
The short version:
Starting Wednesday, March 2nd, our Fairview classes will now be on Wednesdays!
And starting Thursday, March 3rd, Route 66 will now be on Thursdays!
===:-O
The long version:
As most of you know, Q Bar recently refurbished their downstairs bar area (a process which is still ongoing; the DJ box will be moved in the next week or two), including adding in some more TV screens, to try and draw in more people for football matches, etc. Unfortunately, especially at this time of year, there are lots of big matches on Wednesday nights, matches which don’t finish until around 9:40 (or even later in some cases), and it was noted by the events manager this last Wednesday (the 16th) that he repeadedly saw people were coming down to the new lower bar area (presumably to watch the match), hearing our music playing over the system (rather than the match commentary), and turning around and leaving.
Obviously, this presents a problem for them, as there’s no way for them to have the match commentary on in the lower bar and have our music on the dance floor — the entire downstairs is on a single system.
As a solution, we have mutually agreed to move Route 66 to THURSDAY nights! We’ll still be on Wednesday night next week (Feb. 23rd), but the following week (March 3rd) and from then on we’ll be on Thursday nights.
Hopefully this will actually suit everyone better: we ourselves always felt the competition from the big football nights (“Oh look! 40 women and only 10 men! How wonderful!”), and also Thursday is closer to the weekend and more of a “going out” night and so might suit people in that way as well. So hopefully this will actually be a change for the better all around. (Although because it is more of a “going out” night, they’ve asked us to finish up at 10:30 p.m. rather than at 11 p.m.)
Needless to say, this means our Thursday night Lindy Hop classes in Fairview will have to change, so they are switching to Wednesday nights. Beginners will be at 7:30-8:30 p.m. and Improvers will be at 8:30-9:30 p.m.
So, just to recap, here’s our class schedule over the next two weeks:
Monday Feb. 21st — the next 6-week Lindy Hop course in Temple Bar starts, beginners at 7 p.m., improvers at 8 p.m.
Wednesday Feb. 23rd — the final Wednesday night Route 66 at Q Bar
Thursday Feb. 24th — no class in Fairview
Monday Feb 28th — class in Temple Bar as usual
Wednesday March 2nd — the next 6-week Lindy Hop course in Fairview starts, beginners at 7:30 p.m., improvers at 8:30 p.m.
Thursday March 3rd — the first Thursday night Route 66 at Q Bar (finishing at 10:30 p.m.)
Hope that all makes sense! And, of course, we sincerely hope these changes work out for everybody!
All the best,
Jamie and Clare
Hi everyone,
Just a reminder that the Thursday beginner Lindy Hop class in Fairview will be starting tomorrow, September 30th at 7.30pm. The session will run for 6 weeks and cost €70 (€65 for student).
Hope to see you there!
All the best,
Jamie and Clare
There has been a final(!) adjustment to the class times at the Fairview studio. Beginners will now be 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Level 2 (Improvers) 8-9 p.m.
Thursdays at The Charterhouse Business Park, Richmond Road, Fairview, Dublin 3

[Note: No Improvers classes at the Fairview studio at the moment.]
Remember as well that the Lindy Hop classes will now be 6-week courses for €70, or €65 for students.
There have been a few important changes to the Monday and Thursday Lindy Hop classes! These changes apply to the upcoming sessions starting in September and onwards.
Monday Lindy Hop at Studio 2, Cecilia Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 2
Both the beginner and improvers classes will now be 6-week sessions and cost €70 per person per session (€65 for students). The times remain the same at 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the beginners and 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the improvers.
Thursday Lindy Hop at The Charterhouse Business Park, Richmond Road, Fairview, Dublin 3
There is only a beginner class on here for the time being, with the hope to start an improvers class after a session or two. The class will now be a 6-week session and cost €70 per person per session (€65 for students). The time of the beginner class has changed. It is now on from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
If you have any queries at all about these classes, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 087 6330531. Hope to see you all there!
We finally (finally!) have an official date for the opening of the new studio in Fairview! Huzzah!!!!!
But we’re not going to tell you what the date is.
Ha! Only joking, of course. The studio is set to open the week of September 20th, which means that our first class will commence there on Thursday, Sept. 23rd. For the moment there will only be a Beginners class from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., but hopefully in the new year (since we’ll only get in one 8-week session before breaking for Christmas. Scary thought, eh?!?) we’ll be able to start an Improvers class out there as well.
I just got my first tour of the studio today (woohoo! And did I remember to take photos? Of course not!). It is located in the Charterhouse Business Park on Richmond Road in Fairview, D.3 (as it has noted on the Classes page for some time). On a map of Richmond Road, it is near Waterfall Ave. (and on the same side of Richmond Road). There is a brick wall on either side of the business park entrance, with large signs bearing the name of the park on both walls. There will also hopefully be “National Dance Academy” signs going up on top of the walls soon.
Once inside the business park entrance, go right (you won’t have a choice) and follow the road around to the left. (Note: If there’s no parking available, you can park out on Richmond Road.) At the very end of the road (don’t worry, it’s not that far), you’ll come to the building where the studio is located. There’s a seating area with couches on the right and a row of what looks like shop fronts on the left. The NDA is about the 3rd or 4th front in the row.
Inside, there will be a small reception area where people can wait for their class (if it’s full, there’s the previously mentioned couches by the building entrance about 20 meters away, or there’s even a small pool hall upstairs!). Then there’s men’s and women’s changing areas where students will be able to leave their belongings while in class (each area also will have a shower, though those aren’t completed yet), men’s and women’s toilets, and finally the studio itself, with a lovely, big, open floor (no pillars! Yay! And a bit bigger than the old IDA) and mirrors along one wall. It’s a great facility, and will be a fantastic home for us!
Go to the Classes page for more info about our Lindy Hop classes. And we hope to see you in the new studio!
All the best,
Jamie and Clare
Our Monday night Lindy Hop classes are in a new venue in Temple Bar!
Once the International Dance Academy, now the National Dance Academy, holds Lindy Hop classes, both beginners and improvers in Studio 2 in Temple Bar. For more information, please go to the Classes page.
The National Dance Academy will also be holding new beginner Lindy Hop classes on a Thursday night in their brand new studio in Fairview very soon. Watch this space for updates as to when that class will begin!
